Effective Teamwork And High-Quality Technological Skills Produce Top-Notch Solutions At The VA

Quickly providing readable medical images, movies, reports, and data is essential to the healthcare of veterans. Persistent Technology, Inc. (PTI) does just that in the Veterans Health Information System Technology Architecture (VistA) Imaging software provided to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). Adam Whittiker (Technical Lead and Java Team Lead), Claire Streb (.NET Team Lead), and Mohammad Rahman (Test Team Lead) direct the custom application development efforts in the full Development, Security, and Operations (DevSecOps) project life cycle. PTI team members include Sonny Jiang (Java Sr. Developer), Jeffrey Peters (.NET Developer), Chad Valentine (Tester), and Maha Jayashankar (Tester). The PTI team has over 100 years of experience and works hand-in-hand with its partner Ellumen, Inc. to deliver significant enhancements and maintenance support to the VA. Last year, we added the capability for the U.S. Department of Defense (DOD) to share medical files with the VA and vice versa. This year, we added PACS support to the mix.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has classified VistA Imaging as a medical device, which means high demands on the PTI team to furnish critical information to its end users. They do this by writing software and following strict procedures that exchange and convert data with many government systems. This includes, but is not limited to, HL7, DICOM, JSON, PACS, REST, SOAP, and XML. The team keeps current with the latest versions of .NET, Java, and other technologies and protocols, to ensure optimized performance and heightened security. The software requires no installation on a desktop, because it is a zero-footprint HTML5, JavaScript, and CSS application with web services written in CSharp (C#), Java, and PowerShell.

The PTI team reaches and even surpasses its goals by remaining highly communicative, enthusiastic, adaptive, selfless, focused, vision-oriented, and committed all while following the agile methodology.
